Task 10: Folklore Story (Nunuk Ragang)

Synopsis

       This story is about a tree that was called “Nunuk Ragang” by the villagers that live at Ranau. Long time ago, there are rooster that were staying nearby the Nunuk Ragang. One day the chicken try to find a food at the tree area and it found a body of male and female. The two body that were found is called Nunuk Ragang people, not so long after that the Nunuk Ragang couple is married and they live happily since then. Then, there come something that were can’t be describe and they called it Ragang Tie. The villager is afraid of the Ragang Tie, because it can bring bad luck for them and it makes them want to move away from the village to avoid the Ragang Tie. When they were move to another village, another trouble is coming which is there are “Orang Tanah” that was very scary. The “Orang Tanah” is appear when they are planting paddy. On that day, the villagers hear a weird sound that come from underground, the villagers is scare and report it to their chief. The villager is planning to find the source of the weird sound. They try to dig the ground and then they found a big hole, the hole is full of people with beast behaviour. The people in the hole thanks the villagers and they want to stay at the village, but there is one condition which is the villagers must leave the place if not they will sacrifice their life. All the villagers are scared and start move away from the village. The villagers has moved to a hilly area and the rooster scratch the hill until it become flat and it make them easier for farming. As usual the rooster is crow in the morning, then the “Orang Tanah” heard the chicken crow and tries to trace where the sound came from. The villager realise about it, they once again had to move away to avoid the “Orang Tanah”. The villagers had to move to different a place which is Tambunan & Apin-Apin. At last they were staying at Keningau until the end of their life and the “Orang Tanah” is stop their searching of the Nunuk Ragang people.
